What Can I Eat with this Beak?

Electrical Engineering

Fourth Grade Programs

Environmental Engineering
Students utilize the engineering design process to solve various real life erosion problems.  Students investigate the relationship between the mass of earth materials and the force required to move them in order to understand the causes of erosion.  Using miniature replicas of real life erosion control materials, students build models to demonstrate their solutions.

What Can I Eat with this Beak?
Students rotate through six hands-on stations in order to “become the bird” attempting to identifying which human tool replicates each of a series of six bird beaks. Students analyze preserved birds, looking at their beaks and feet.  Following this activity, students build their own species of bird and determine its ability to survive in their self-selected habitat.

Electrical Engineering

Students use their basic circuitry knowledge to wire model homes.  Students wire the model houses utilizing both series and parallel circuits and draw schematic diagrams of each.  Upon completion of this activity, students proceed to design and create their own flashlight.
