The New Century Club has donated its building at 10 West Pine Street in Georgetown to the Indian River School District. The district officially took ownership of the property following settlement proceedings on July 19.

The building is the former home of the Georgetown Public Library and more recently has been utilized as office space for the Sussex County Democratic Party. The Indian River Board of Education will explore future uses for the property.‚Äč

Founded in the late-1800s, the New Century Club is one of the first women’s clubs in the United States and is dedicated to social improvement and charity.

The Indian River School District would like to thank the New Century Club for its generous donation and the Haller & Hudson law firm for managing the transfer of the property.

UPDATE: At its regular meeting on July 24, 2017, the Indian River Board of Education voted to sell the New Century Club property at public auction with proceeds going to the district's general fund.
